Alpine Coach Tyler Palmer Resigns after 11 Years with the SVSEF
This past Thursday Tyler Palmer announced his resignation. As you all know Tyler has been a cornerstone of this organization for 11 years. Tyler’s energy, focus and overall passion for the sport of alpine skiing is very special and infectious and we have been blessed to have him work with us all these years. Wyatt Bunce claims Snowboard Halfpipe National Title!
The Sun Valley Snowboard Team has had an outstanding start to its 2010 USASA Nationals! Ali Appleton finished 10th in Junior Women’s Slopestyle in one of the toughest fields at the events. Dash Stethem posted a personal best 29th in Junior men’s halfpipe with a 29th not bad for a kid who only started riding pipe this season. Senior Wyatt Bunce won the Men’s Jams halfpipe 18-22 with a score of 92! Way to go Wyatt on your National Championship! Mal prior qualified second today in the Open Class Halfpipe and finished a strong 5th in a field that included riders who have been on the podium at pro level events all season! Way to put it down when it counts! Chase Josey in his first Open Class Nationals finished 14th! The future looks bright for him! The team has Open Class Slopestyle tomorrow and Junior and Youth Halfpipe on Friday stay tuned for updates from the road! SVSEF performs well at Nationals!
Beautiful spring conditions made for some exciting skiing at the 2010 U.S. Freestyle National Championships in Squaw Valley, Ca. SVSEF's Tai Barrymore earned a bronze medal in men's halfpipe. Hannah Haupt just missed the podium finishing 4th in women's halfpipe. Colter Brehmer took home 7th place and Ben Parker, appearing in his first ever national championship finished 19th. Kaitlyn Farrington Beats Olympic Gold Medalist to Win European X Games Pipe!
Kaitlyn Farrington beat current Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright to win the European X Games! Kaitlyn threw an amazing run down that included a huge backside 900 to pull down a score of 97.0 to best Torah's 95.6! CONGRTULATIONS KAITLYN!

On the Podium at XC Nationals
Sloan Storey placed 2nd this morning in the J2 division of the 5K skate. Maggie Williams narrowly missed the podium in 4th and Maranda Stopol rounded out the top 15, finishing 15th. This just in....Tai Barrymore has defended his title at the Freestyle Junior Olympics, winning the Men's 1/2 Pipe. Hannah Haupt was also on the podium finishing 2nd in the Women's 1/2 Pipe competition. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Teagen Palmer, Bergen Palmer and Tanner Farrow who were named to the 10 person 2010-2011 IMD Alpine Team. All IMD Junior Team members will receive free lifts and entries to IMC races until the new team is picked in February of 2011.

Kaitlyn Farrington wins Dew Tour!
SVSEF ODT athlete Kaitlyn Farrington won the final stop of the SB Half-Pipe Dew Tour and wrapped up the overall win all at once. On the heals of a third place finish in the Park City Dew Tour, Kaitlyn moved herself to the top of the podium on Saturday! Congratulations Kaitlyn!

Simi Hamilton joins SVSEF Athletes on 2010 Olympic Team
SVSEF ODT XC athlete Simi Hamilton has secured himself a spot on the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Team! Congratulations to Simi, who will join local teammates Morgan Arritola and Graham Watanabe in the Olympic Games. Solid results like winning his first National Championship this month and qualifying first at the U-23 World Championships helped Simi secure his spot.

SVSEF XC Athletes Named to World Cup Team
Morgan Arritola, Nicole DeYong, Simi Hamilton and Mike Sinnott have been named to the Canmore World Cup Team. They will compete Feb. 5-6 in Canmore, AB in the last WC competition prior to the Olympics. Congratulations!

Alpine Racers Qualify for Topolino Shoot-Out
Three of the fifteen "invite only" spots for the Western Region Topolino Shoot-Out will be taken by SVSEF athletes Ben Kanelittsas, KJ Savaria and Kipling Weisel. Based on early season results, these three athletes will compete in Park City from Jan. 21-24 to win the coveted single spot for the Topolino Championships in Italy. The Topolino Championship is essentially the World Junior Championship competition for J3 athletes. Winners of the Topolino race commonly go on to become World Cup Champions!

NBC to Air Freestyle Olympic Trials
SVSEF ODT athlete Shane Cordeau will be competing in the U.S. Freestyle Olympic Trials this Wednesday Dec. 23rd. The event will be aired Saturday, December 26th at 2:30 EST on NBC. This event is only open to the top 12 current U.S. Freestyle ski team athletes. Winner gets an automatic Olympic spot. Good luck Shane!

Exciting News from Freestyle Team!
Yesterday, Wed Dec. 16th, was Shane Cordeau's birthday. He turned 23. He also finished 1st on both runs at the US Freestyle Selections event at WinterPark, Co. This is a major accomplishment for Shane. He will compete again on Friday in single moguls. The top two competitors from the combined results of the two days will earn at least 2 domestic World Cup starts proir to the Olympics. Shane has the momentum going now to make his Olympic dream come true. His next event is the GOLD Cup at Steamboat Springs, Co. This is an Olympic qualifier. Winner gets an automatic Olympic berth. Top Results for Alpine Team in Jackson, WY!
The SVSEF Alpine Team was well represented in Jackson Hole this past weekend. Athletes spent 4 days racing in the opening Western Region FIS Junior Series. In summary, SVSEF athletes were on the podium a total of 15 times with Tanner Farrow and Teagen Palmer scoring not only top spots in their age group but overall as well. On Saturday, the J2 girls (Teagen, Nicole, Amanda) swept the podium in GS. Teagen and Nicole went 1-2 in all three races they finished. Also racing: Willie Adicoff, Connor Farrow, Tanner Dirstine, Colin Waycott, Ryan Foster, Tyler Davis, Dylan Carroll, Miles Sweek, Karlee Stagg and Reta Flynt. Click on the title for full results.
