Important Details
USSA Licences: All SVSEF participants must obtain a USSA licence for insurance purposes. Team members will not be allowed to attend practice or events before acquiring a USSA licence. Visit USSA.com for online registration. Cost is about $35.
- Communication: We communicate mostly through email and this web site. Please check this page periodically for sign-ups for various activities and important information. Monthly schedules and daily practice information will also be posted at the hut.
Clothing: The SVSEF has Cross Country Team Jackets/Ski Pants and Team Ski hats for sale at very reasonable prices. Look for the Team Uni Flyer in Early October.
Your child will need a full set of Skate skiing gear for the season:
Specifically: Skate skis that come to the top of your childs’ head. Skate poles that reach their mouth. We provide Classic Ski Equipment for use during the season. The Elephants’ Perch, Backwoods and Sturetvant’s all offer lease packages around $100. -$150. for the season. Some "loaner" gear is also available - talk to Dave B.
Please make sure all is clearly labeled with name!

Storage
-
The team has a heated, secure team building at Lake Creek where skiers by leave gear. Each will have a place for skis/poles and a small cubby to leave boots, hat/gloves etc. We recommend kids leave a pair of gloves and hat in their cubby.
Dry-land usually lasts about a month. Please prepare for varied weather and for active outdoor fun and games! Running shoes, light jackets, workout clothing (suitable for running, jumping, tearing around in the sage brush advised), water bottle and water bottle holder if at all possible for our longer hikes/runs, hats & light gloves.
On snow: Once skiing starts, (typically around 1st week of Dec.) team members will need non-cotton outerwear (team ski pants/jackets will be available for purchase soon), water bottle & holder, hats & gloves. We’ve found “lobster” gloves work best in the x-c pole straps! Alpine gloves do not work as well as kids can’t get their hands through the straps.
Our coaches are comprised of former high-end XC racers, river and mountain guides, mom's, dad's, and all-around outdoor education specialists. We take a professional, yet fun-loving approach to teaching and mentoring young skiers. We believe in promoting strong work ethics, competent and well-rounded ski skills, support and unity with fellow teammates, love and respect for the outdoor winter world. For safety we maintain at least one Certified First Responder at every practice and communicate via radio when in the field.
