Team Descriptions 2009/2010
In an effort to keep costs affordable and still provide the same quality coaching and programs, the Sun Valley Snowboard Team will be restructuring our team for the 2009/2010 season. These changes are being made in an effort to provide a clearer path from the intro levels of the team to the upper end.
Devo: $880.00
Geared for riders 2nd-5th grade, riders will focus on freeriding, rails, jumps, halfpipe, gates and more. Special attention will be paid to the three F’s: freeriding, fundamentals and fun! Kids will get to ride with a great group of riders as well as the SVST coaches who have years of practical experience getting young riders to realize their potential. The goal of the D-Team is to foster a life long love of snowboarding.
Requirements
- Athletes must be currently in the second grade or older
- USSA Regional Competitor’s License.
Benefits
- Athletes will have on-snow training Saturdays and Sundays in December, 9:00 am – 12:00; then January thru March, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Additional sessions will be scheduled for some school holidays. Training season: First week of December – March 31st.
- Riders in this program are exposed to all aspects of snowboarding including freestyle, alpine, mountain etiquette and all the basic fundamentals necessary to become a great rider. All of this combined with our most important element, fun, makes this a great place to start for kids who want to take their riding to a new level.
- Riders work together with their coaches and teammates to achieve their goals and have a great time in the process.
- Dryland training will begin in November as scheduled.
- Average athlete to coach ratio is 7:1
Prep Team: $1870.00
The Prep Team is primarily for riders 5th-8th grades. As the name implies, Prep Team is preparation to become the best snowboarder you can be. Riders will take the skills learned on the Devo Team and apply them toward specific goals and challenges. Riders will continue to use freeriding as the basis to becoming a well rounded rider while beginning to focus on the different disciplines with in the sport. Riders will work within a group setting Thursday, Friday, Saturdays and Sundays December through March. Riders will also be encouraged to test the competitive waters by participating in our local USASA slopestyle and halfpipe events and 1 regional event, to be determined by the coaching staff.
Requirements
- Athletes must be 11 years of age, or at coach’s discretion.
- USSA Regional Competitor’s License required.
- USASA License required for certain events.
Benefits
- Athletes will have on-snow training Thursdays and Fridays after school to 4:00 pm; and Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Extra sessions will be added during school holidays. Training season: First week of December – March 31st.
- Freeriding and fun are still at the core of this program, but riders will be exposed to drills, gates, halfpipe and freestyle training to create well rounded snowboarders.
- All riders will be encouraged to enter local events i/e Rotarun Rail Jams, Lane Parrish and local USASA events.
- Riders will have the opportunity to travel to one selected Regional event.
- Dryland training will begin in October.
- Tuition includes locker storage at the EnglTrainingCenter.
- Athletes will have an academic advisor available to them throughout the academic year. .
- Average athlete to coach ratio is 7:1.
Comp Team: $2350.00
The Comp Team is for riders grades 7th-12th and ready to add competition to their snowboarding experience. Riders new to the Comp Team (kids who would have been C-Travel in the past) can expect to participate in local events and two regional away weekends during the season. As riders progress through the Comp Team events like USASA Nationals, USSA Revolution Tours and Grand Prix events will become available as they qualify. Training opportunities will run year round. On snow season runs December through March, Wednesday through Sunday. By combining the A, B and C-Travel teams into a dynamic training group the staff has the ability to bring consistent coaching and ideas to riders over the course of their time with the team. In addition it allows young riders to have a larger connection to the different levels of opportunity in snowboarding as a whole.
Requirements
- Athletes must be 12 years of age, or at coach’s discretion
- USSA Regional Competitor License required.
- USASA Full Competition License required.
- USSA National and FIS license may be required as riders progress
Benefits
- Athletes will have on-snow training Wednesday through Friday after school to 4:00 pm; and on Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Additional sessions will be scheduled for school holidays. Training season: This is a year around program.
- Training will cover all aspects of riding, including, but not limited to, freestyle, halfpipe, freeriding, alpine and boardercross.
- Riders will compete in regional events in the Intermountain region. Riders will be expected to compete in local events as well.
- Riders will have the opportunity to qualify for bigger events like USASA National, USSA Revolution Tour and USSA Grand Prix events
- Summer Camp opportunities will be available
- Dryland training will begin in the summer.
- Tuition includes locker storage at the EnglTrainingCenter.
- Athletes will have an academic advisor available to them throughout the academic year.
